New Zealand Police has completed enquiries into an allegation of sexual offending at a central Auckland hotel earlier this year.
The allegation was reported to Auckland City Police on 10 April 2026.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard says the allegation has not been substantiated.
A 40-year-old woman has now been charged with making a false statement, under the Crimes Act.
"A decision to prosecute in these circumstances is not taken lightly and follows months of investigative work by our Adult Sexual Assault Team," Detective Inspector Beard says.
The woman has been summonsed to appear in the Auckland District Court on 10 November 2026.
Police cannot comment further in this matter.
