Council is calling on local artists who incorporate technology into their creative practice to apply for a technology-focused artist residency opportunity at the Banyule Nillumbik Tech School (BNTS).

Part of the expanded Nillumbik Artist in Residence Program 2026-27, the residency will provide artists with access to purpose-built creative spaces, cutting-edge technology and opportunities to connect with young people and the broader community.

Open to individual artists working across any artform that incorporates technology, the residency supports creatives to develop new work in an inspiring environment away from the distractions of everyday life.

The successful artist will receive a support grant, access to BNTS facilities and technology, a dedicated studio space, and the opportunity to exhibit completed work in the BNTS gallery space.

Artists will also be encouraged to share their enthusiasm for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) with students and demonstrate how creativity and technology can come together to create innovative outcomes.

Mayor Cr Naomi Joiner encouraged artists to take advantage of the opportunity.

"Nillumbik is home to an incredible community of creative people, and this residency gives artists the time, space and resources to push their practice in new directions," Cr Joiner said.

"The partnership with Banyule Nillumbik Tech School creates a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of art and technology while inspiring young people to think creatively about the future."

Artists can choose between a 10-day intensive residency over two weeks, or a non-intensive residency spread across five weeks. Both residency options provide 10 working days, followed by an opportunity to exhibit work at BNTS and engage with students during the exhibition in May 2027.

The Nillumbik Artist in Residence Program supports Council's commitment to fostering a vibrant and connected local creative community.

Applications are open until Monday 30 November 2026, at 2pm.
