- King Rocks Wind Farm to deliver 105 megawatts of renewable power
- Project to create 200 jobs during construction and others during 30-year operation
- Part of the State Government's $6.4 billion investment in renewable energy infrastructure
Construction has started on the 105-megawatt King Rocks Wind Farm, a Synergy led renewable energy project that is part of the Cook Government's clean energy transition for Western Australia.
Workers have been mobilised, and earthworks have started at the site, 35km north-east of Hyden.
King Rocks Wind Farm will feature 17 wind turbines and will generate enough power for up to 70,000 homes.
The project will also involve construction of associated infrastructure such as roads, transmission lines and substation facilities.
Towers up to 125m with turbine blades of up to 80m long take the total height of each wind turbine to about 206m.
The Cook Labor Government has committed $513 million towards the project.
The wind farm will provide an economic boost to the region by creating about 200 jobs during construction, with other jobs during operations over the next 30 years.
This is in addition to more than 30 jobs created through the construction of Synergy's Hyden Workers' Accommodation built nearby.
The facility will feature 189 temporary rooms and associated facilities. The first workers are using the facility.
The Government has invested $6.4 billion on renewable energy infrastructure since 2017.
King Rocks Wind Farm is being delivered by State-owned Synergy and is expected to be completed in 2027.
