  • 106-bed public ward block officially opened at Joondalup Health Campus, including a new state-of-the-art cardiac care unit
  • Expanded public theatre complex has been completed, increasing surgical capacity in the northern suburbs
  • Projects delivered by the Cook Government as part of $307.9 million expansion of Joondalup Health Campus

A multi-million dollar 106-bed public ward block and world-class public theatre complex expansion have officially opened at Joondalup Health Campus to care for more patients in Perth's fast-growing northern suburbs.

The public ward block includes 46 contemporary individual patient rooms across two new wards, with a further 60 beds to be fitted out by mid-2026, following an additional $24 million investment as part of the State Budget 2025-26.

The public theatre block has undergone a major transformation with one new public theatre and two new interventional catheter laboratories (cath labs), to replace an existing cath lab, doubling capacity for image guided cardiac and vascular procedures, such as angioplasty to unblock arteries, and implanting pacemakers.

The new cath labs are fitted with the latest technology, generating 3-D, real time images to support and expand the provision of best practice minimally invasive procedures.

The expansion includes more pre-surgery holding bays and post-anaesthesia care unit bed bays, improved facilities for staff and an expanded central sterilising services department to support additional theatre activity.

The Joondalup Health Campus expansion is a six-year project that includes $149.9 million funding by the State Government and $158 million funding by the Commonwealth Government.

The project has delivered new facilities across the site, including a 102-bed mental health unit, more emergency department beds, a new discharge lounge, additional parking and supporting facilities.

Two additional theatres for shared public and private use, funded by Ramsay Health Care, will open in the public theatre complex in September 2025.

As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:

"The Joondalup Health Campus expansion is a critical component of our government's ambitious $3.2 billion health infrastructure agenda.

"The public expansion has added more health and mental health beds to the system in our growing northern corridor.

"The new theatre and additional interventional catheterisation laboratory will deliver more surgeries and procedures, further expanding access to care."

As stated by Health and Mental Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"The Joondalup Health Campus expansion has significantly expanded access to care for people living in Perth's northern suburbs and brings additional beds to the system during the critical winter period.

"By doubling the number of cath labs, we're also doubling the number of guided cardiac and vascular procedures that can be carried out to about 3,000 per year.

"And the new theatre brings the total number of theatres at Joondalup Health Campus to 13, with a further two theatres due for completion in September."
