Construction of the first public high school in Jordan Springs has passed an important milestone with the structure of the new school reaching its highest point and all major concrete pours now complete.
The new high school is being built in the Jordan Springs East precinct, on the corner of Armoury Road and Infantry Street, and will feature 51 modern classrooms, three support classrooms, 10 workshops for specialist classes, as well as a sports field and three sports courts.
The large hall is designed to support future growth and will include a full-size netball court, along with line markings for basketball, indoor soccer, hockey, badminton and mini volleyball.
With doors due to open to students on Day 1 Term 1 2027, the high school will accommodate up to 1,000 students and has been master planned for future growth - finally providing local families with the high school they have been advocating more than a decade for.
More than 200 expressions of interest have already been received from local families for enrolments next year.
The process to formally name the new school is also now complete, with the Geographical Names Board officially signing off on Jordan Springs High School in line with community feedback.
Mr Craig Dunne has recently been appointed as the foundation principal of the new high school, bringing a wealth of experience having served as a principal in the area for almost a decade.
This milestone follows confirmation that a temporary road linking Jordan Springs and Ropes Crossing will be open in time for Day 1, Term 1 2027 providing local families with direct access to the new high school. Meanwhile, works continue on the permanent East-West Connector Road.
Communities in Western Sydney like Jordan Springs and Ropes Crossing have seen student enrolment growth skyrocket in recent years. The NSW Government's Enrolment Growth Audit revealed the Jordan Springs - Llandilo area was one of the top ten fastest growing suburbs between 2018 and 2023, with enrolments increasing by 95 per cent.
Despite the rapid growth in the area and fierce advocacy from the community, the Liberals failed to deliver a local public high school in their 12 years of government.
ICAC recently reported that under the former Liberal National Government staff were asked to change population data which had the "effect of diverting funds from North West and South West Sydney". Furthermore "public money that had been put aside to build and improve schools for NSW children was instead spent on jobs for friends and associates of the chief executive".
The delivery of the new Jordan Springs High School is part of the Minns Labor Government's record $9 billion investment in school infrastructure, which includes $3.9 billion for new and upgraded schools across Western Sydney.
This is the largest investment in school infrastructure in NSW history with around 230 new schools, public preschools, and major upgrades currently underway across NSW.
The delivery of new classrooms is being matched with more teachers in NSW public schools, with teacher vacancies at a 12-year low.
Enrolments for the school are now open for Years 7 and 8, with the catchment encompassing the current catchments of both Jordan Springs Public School and Ropes Crossing Public School. More information can be found here: edu.nsw.link/NewHSJordanSprings-Enrol.
Deputy Premier, Minister for Education and Early Learning, and Member for Londonderry, Prue Car said:
"This major milestone shows that the Jordan Spring High School our community has waited so long for, will be a reality for local families.
"We have worked hard to ensure that from day one, students and parents will be able to get to the new high school quickly and safely, having now outlined a clear plan for the Connector Road.
"While local families were told time and again by the former Liberal National Government that this school wasn't needed, the Minns Labor Government has listened and is powering ahead with construction. I look forward to welcoming our first cohort of students when the school opens Day 1, Term 1 next year."
Jordan Springs High School Principal Craig Dunne said:
