- Works now underway on $35 million project at Keirnan Park Recreation and Sporting Precinct in Mundijong
- Local community to benefit from new ovals, cricket nets, pavilion and car parking
- WA Labor Government has contributed $22 million to the project
Construction has begun on the first stage of the Keirnan Park Recreation and Sporting Precinct, a major project underpinned by a $22 million commitment from the Western Australian Labor Government.
The Stage One improvements for the 63-hectare Mundijong Park site include:
- two senior AFL ovals with floodlighting and supporting infrastructure;
- six cricket nets;
- 1,500 square metre pavilion including four changerooms and covered viewing area;
- single carriageway entry road;
- over 200 carparking bays across three carparks; and
- landscaping and irrigation.
Other contributions to the $35 million project have been provided from the local government and private developers.
CivCon Civil and Project Management have been awarded the construction contract with the project expected to be complete within three years.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Sporting precincts form such an important part of our communities, particularly in our suburbs.
"These improvements will be a significant boost to the Serpentine-Jarrahdale community with a range of sport and recreation facilities that will benefit active lifestyles.
"This precinct is much needed by this growing community and our government is committed to supporting these types of developments that support local needs."
