Key Upgrades Keep Lake Eildon Park Open

Parks Victoria

Much loved campgrounds in the Fraser Block at Lake Eildon on Taungurung Country are receiving an update to make sure visitors can continue to enjoy camping in the National Park for many years to come.

We are installing new accessible toilet blocks at Lakeside, Candlebark and Devil Cove Campgrounds will receive new accessible toilet blocks to enable more Victorians to go camping in the great outdoors.

We are also planning to update the Herb Fitzroy Day Visitor Area, installing a new accessible toilet block next to the nearby boat ramp.

These works are funded by the Victorian Government's Victoria's Great Outdoors program.

In addition to the new amenities, we are planning road upgrades at Lakeside Campground, as well as new fencing and signage. An outdoor education shelter at Candlebark Campground is also included as part of the project.

Each new toilet block features a state-of-the-art dry-vault system, removing the current reliance on running water, which must be carted-in to the park. This provides an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective way to manage amenities in the park. Non-drinking water is provided by a gravity fed rainwater tank.

In recent times, water supply issues caused by aging infrastructure have limited the capacity of the Fraser Block camping area and impacted picnic areas in Lake Eildon National Park. This long-term solution addresses the issues caused by water and wastewater assets currently at end-of-life. These essential updates mean that visitors can continue to enjoy camping at Lake Eildon National Park for years to come.

We will go to tender to for the construction phase in May. Pending the granting of final permits and approvals, works are scheduled to take place in the second half of 2025 and are expected to be complete by the end of the year.

The updates will bring the facilities at the Fraser Block at Lake Eildon in line with most of Parks Victoria's campgrounds.
