Calling all young creatives aged 15-19: applications are open for Campaspe Shire Council's youth-led Unearthed arts program, coming to Kyabram in 2027 after two successful years in Echuca. Participants will explore their creativity, connect with peers and work alongside professional artists and mentors.

Up to eight young creatives will be selected to join the inaugural Kyabram cohort, participating in a series of creative sessions at Kyabram Town Hall Gallery throughout 2027. Together, participants will experiment with a range of artistic practices including animation, drawing, painting, sculpture, installation art, stencil art and mark-making, while developing new work for a public exhibition in August 2027.

Director Community and Culture Jo Bradshaw said Unearthed gives young people a platform to build confidence and share their perspectives with the community.

"Unearthed provides a supportive and collaborative environment where young people can develop their creative practice alongside like-minded peers.

Importantly, participants don't need to identify as artists or have previous experience. We're looking for curious young people who are excited to experiment, learn and contribute their ideas."

The program encourages participants to draw inspiration from local landscapes, community stories, everyday life, identity and imagination, creating work that reflects the experiences of young people in the region.

In addition, the broader community will also have opportunities to get involved, as members of the 2026 Unearthed Collective will return to facilitate a series of creative workshops for other young people across the Shire. The workshops will provide opportunities for participants to experiment with a range of creative practices and develop new artwork for exhibition alongside the Unearthed Kyabram cohort.

The expansion of Unearthed to Kyabram reflects Council's commitment to providing accessible creative opportunities for young people across the shire and supporting the development of emerging creative talent.

Young people aged 15-19 who are interested in creativity in any form, including visual arts, photography, writing, performance, music, film, animation, digital art and creative technologies, are encouraged to apply.

Applications for the 2027 program are open now and close on Friday, 18 December 2026.
