Campaspe Shire Council is pleased to announce construction will soon begin on the new Echuca War Memorial Artwork, a significant project that will bring a substantial piece of artwork to the precinct while honouring the service and sacrifice of local veterans.

The honour roll plaque element of the artwork will replace the previously removed copper plaques and follows a community engagement process undertaken by Council which invited residents, families, and veterans' groups to help identify veterans who were born in the Echuca area but had not previously been included on the Echuca War Memorial honour roll.

Through this process, Council received valuable community feedback and historical information that helped uncover additional names, ensuring a more complete reflection of the district's contribution to Australia's military service.

Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell said the project represented an important opportunity to acknowledge those whose service may have previously gone unrecognised.

"War memorials play a vital role in preserving our local history and ensuring the service and sacrifice of veterans is remembered by future generations.
