Lake Wendouree set to host Geelong College Regatta

Lake Wendouree will host the Rowing Victoria - The Geelong College Regatta for the first time this Saturday.

The Rowing Victoria event has been relocated to Ballarat's Lake Wendouree Regatta course after a blue-green algae outbreak at the Barwon River in Geelong.

The regatta adds to the already very strong calendar of major Rowing Victoria regattas this season and follows last weekend's successful Wendouree Ballarat Regatta, which attracted more than 1,000 participants.

Lake Wendouree will also host the Head of the Schoolboys' Regatta on 15 February and the State Championship on 29 February and 1 March. The annual BAS Head of the Lake is scheduled for 23 February.

The City of Ballarat is delighted to be able to provide Lake Wendouree at short notice - delivering a great outcome for the event, Rowing Victoria and for the sport of rowing.

The City of Ballarat has notified the Ballarat Yacht Club and the other local clubs and schools that use the lake. The regatta is scheduled to conclude at 2pm to allow for the Ballarat Yacht Club's sailing session to proceed.

Rowing training sessions scheduled to take place on Saturday will now be held on the north shore of the lake.

The City of Ballarat would like to thank the Ballarat Yacht Club and the clubs and schools that may be slightly inconvenienced by the late change to the lake schedule.
