From revolutionary 3D printing, magical maths and lessons from animal behaviour, people across Lancaster and Morecambe will have the opportunity to discover more about fascinating scientific discoveries in a relaxed setting as the area takes part in the international 'Pint of Science' festival.
Organised by Lancaster University's Faculty of Science and Technology, the three-day event, held between May 19-21, aims to make science accessible and engaging for all.
Pint of Science is an inclusive international festival held in towns and cities across the world that brings scientific research and knowledge to the general public over a drink in an informal environment.
Event Schedule:
- Monday, 19 May (7:00-9:00 PM) - Touch, Heal, Build: The Power of Additive Manufacturing at Lancaster City Museum, Lancaster. Showcasing how 3D printing is revolutionising industries from healthcare to art accessibility, experts will explore innovations such as bioprinting, tactile art for the visually impaired, and the transformative impact of 3D printing on modern manufacturing and medical technologies.
- Tuesday, 20 May (7:00-9:00 PM) - Maths Behind the Magic: AI, Codes, and Digital Secrets at The Gregson Centre, Lancaster. From how AI learns, to how your data stays safe online, expert speakers will reveal the surprisingly simple mathematics powering everything from selfies to cybersecurity - no maths degree required!
- Wednesday, 21 May (7:00-9:00 PM) - What Animal Behaviour Can Teach Us About Ethics and the Environment at Mazuma Stadium (Morecambe FC), Morecambe. From surprising animal talents to early signs of ecological stress, expert speakers will examine how understanding animal behaviour can reshape our moral choices and environmental responsibility.
Dr Alice Rees, Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology and organiser of this year's event, said: "Pint of science is fantastic event, it's got some cool science in a friendly relaxed environment and everyone is welcome- the more the merrier!
