Large crowds expected for premier cycling and sailing events this week

Our region is gearing up for a big week of major world-class events with the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race and the historic Festival of Sails getting underway.

Huge attendance numbers are set to generate millions in economic benefit, with the 2020 cycling event pumping $11.2 million into our local economy and the sailing festival that same year providing $10.3 million.

Cadel Evans Geat Ocean Road Race

The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race returns after a two-year COVID hiatus with a new look course featuring more of our beautiful Bellarine Peninsula.

To ensure the safety of the participants and the community, there will be both rolling and fixed road closures in place across Saturday and Sunday. Delays of 15-20 minutes are expected on the SurfCoast/Bellarine Loop when the race passes by once each day and there will be local access only on the Geelong Circuit.

Drivers are also encouraged to be extra careful during the recreational TAC People's Ride on Saturday as thousands of riders will take to the road, predominantly under normal traffic conditions.
