Last chance to register for second round of Lift Project Sunshine Coast

Registrations are closing soon for Sunshine Coast residents to participate in a popular online wellbeing program that's changing lives and inspiring many across the region.

More than 3000 people registered for the first round of The Lift Project Sunshine Coast after Council was the first organisation to partner with internationally recognised lifestyle medicine expert Dr Darren Morton.

The online program, offered exclusively and free to local residents, explores 10 wellness-enhancing topics over 10 weeks, with an emphasis on mental wellbeing.

Research Fellow of the Thompson Institute and President of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine Dr Sam Manger said The Lift Project was one of the best online programs he had seen to help empower people and create lasting benefits in both mental and physical health.

"It's a terrific program that really can make a difference to everyday lives," Dr Manger, also a Maleny-based GP, said.

"Studies have shown that 93 per cent of diabetes and 80 per cent of heart disease are preventable with fairly simple lifestyle changes.

"We also know that up to 80 per cent of diabetes and a large portion of common mental illnesses are reversible with lifestyle interventions, meaning less suffering and less medication."

Community Portfolio Councillor David Law encouraged people to have a go and sign up before registrations closed.

"Council recognised the importance of ensuring residents in our communities look after themselves and continue to thrive – especially during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic," Cr Law said.

"We've had wonderful feedback from residents participating in this program which is designed to be both fun and educational, and builds stress-resilience, vitality, fitness and strong social connections.

"These are all key qualities in council's Sunshine Coast Community Strategy, where our community is contributing to improving health and happiness.

"There's no time like now to make a positive change and lift your life."

The Lift Project Sunshine Coast is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. All you need is the willingness to get involved and lift others and yourself along the way.

Round two registrations are now open but close soon on 23 July. It's a quick and easy process requiring only your residential postcode and email.

Your educational adventure then starts on Monday 27 July.
