Laying of wreath to honour Queen Elizabeth II

Lithgow Council

On Monday 19 September, Lithgow City Council Mayor Maree Statham will lay a wreath to recognise the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This small service will take place in Queen Elizabeth Park, Main Street, Lithgow at 4:00 PM. The public are invited to attend this service.

Lithgow has a historical connection to Queen Elizabeth II, as her 1954 Royal Tour of Australia included a visit to the city on 12 February. The Queen's regard for Lithgow was explained in an official letter that she provided to the Council on that day. The letter acknowledged the role that this area has made to Australia's development - "I am well aware that this area with its coal and its industry is making a notable contribution to the strength of Australia, and I am very glad that I have been able to come here and see something of it. I am still more pleased to be able to meet some of the men and women who work the mines and man the machines."
