More than 30,000 home energy upgrades have been completed across Australia with the backing of the Albanese Government's Household Energy Upgrades Fund (HEUF) - helping thousands of households cut their energy bills, make their homes more liveable, and better adapted to climate change, in a milestone achievement.
Since commencing in May 2024, thousands of Australians have accessed HEUF-supported low-cost finance to invest in rooftop solar, batteries, insulation, energy-efficient electric appliances and other upgrades that help make homes cheaper to run.
According to the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), household savings through HEUF finance is estimated to be up to $21.8 million annually.
Queenslanders have led the way across the country completing 12,000 home energy upgrades using the scheme. Across the country, batteries, inverters and solar PV were the top 3 most popular upgrades.
For one family in Marsden, Queensland, the benefits are already clear. A HEUF-backed loan helped fund rooftop solar and a battery system that is expected to reduce their quarterly electricity bill from around $1,000 to about $100, while giving them greater control over their household energy use.
Since HEUF launched, the CEFC has announced over $535 million in discounted finance for households, backed by 7 co-financiers and leveraging an additional $530 million in private sector investment to provide discounted finance for home energy upgrades.
This is all part of the Albanese Government's plan to deliver cheaper, cleaner, more reliable energy by getting more renewables and storage into the grid, insulating Australians from global energy market volatility.
The Albanese Government is delivering practical reform that helps households now and builds a better energy system for the future.
Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy Josh Wilson:
"This important milestone with the HEUF shows that Australians have a real appetite for making their homes more sustainable and more efficient with reliable, renewable, and low-emission technologies.
The Albanese Government is helping Australians cut household costs, improve home comfort and take greater control over their energy use. Across the country, upgrades under the HEUF are helping Australians save an estimated $21.8 million annually.
"I am looking forward to new finance partnerships ensuring more Australians put solar panels on their roof or a battery at their back door, giving them more opportunities to benefit from the energy transformation and ease cost-of-living pressures."
