Legacy of a Football Legend Who Wrote His Way Into History

Leski Auctions
For 30 years, Percy Beames covered sport for the The Age, arguably the home of sports journalism in Australia. It followed a stellar career as captain-coach of the revered Melbourne Football Club and a first-class cricketer with Victoria.
His impact on sport is evidenced by a lasting legacy bestowed by a grateful code: the Percy Beames Bar at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Percy Beames' passing in 2004 signalled the end of an era when sportsmen and women were driven by personal achievement rather than financial gain.
For the first time, an impressive testament to his sporting pedigree is being offered for sale by Leski Auctions. The auction is scheduled for tomorrow, 12 November from 12.00pm.
Lot 384 comprises three Premiership medals awarded in 1939, 1940 and 1941, the golden era of the Melbourne Football Club. Housed in a custom-made presentation case, the medals are all in superb original condition and have never before been offered for sale.
"Many great sportspeople are written into history by their sporting prowess," says Charles Leski of Leski Auctions. "Percy Beames had already earned his place on the field before writing the stories of those who followed him in his two great sporting passions."
Lot 384 has a pre-sale estimate of $30,000 - $40,000. (Image available at https://www.leski.com.au/images/lot/3869/386994_0.jpg?1603782125).
