Lennox Head rejuvenated and ready for Christmas: Ballina Shire

Lennox Head village is sparkling and new, ready for locals and holiday makers to enjoy this festive season.

Most of the Lennox Village Vision works in Ballina Street are now complete, with only paving around the IGA complex and road reconstruction at Park Lane and Byron Street intersections to be finished off in the new year.

Safety fencing and barriers are down and Ballina Street has returned to two-way traffic.

"Council's construction crews and contractors have worked extended shifts and weekends to complete this in time for the holiday season, and we're just so pleased to see the results," said Ballina Shire Council Mayor Sharon Cadwallader.

"The project faced supply chain issues due to the pandemic and challenges related to the flood recovery. I am very proud that despite these hurdles our project managers and construction team were able to identify opportunities to accelerate the program and deliver the final stage ahead of schedule and before the summer holidays. Of course, this would not have been possible without the amazing support of Lennox Head businesses and residents who really got on board with our Lennox Village vision."

The multi-million dollar Lennox Village Vision project kicked off construction late last year with Stage 1 works including undergrounding of electricity, installation of new stormwater and drinking water services, and the Ross Park Upgrade.

Stages 2 to 4 included full road reconstruction of Ballina Street (between Park Lane and Byron Road), new footpaths, stormwater, paving, landscaping, and street furniture.

"The main street is looking so fresh and much more open and inviting," said Mayor Cadwallader.

"New paving has improved outdoor dining areas, while removal of overhead power lines has really opened up the streetscape. The Ross Park upgrade has also opened up the area with better views to the ocean."

Pedestrian access has been improved with installation of new pedestrian crossings at the northern and southern end of Ballina Street, and a new shared zone in the Central Hub, connecting cafes and restaurants with Ross Park. Drivers must give way to pedestrians in this shared zone, and the maximum speed limit is 10km/h.

"I hope our community and visitors show their support for Lennox Head retailers this Christmas and New Year's, as the village is well and truly open for business!" said Mayor Cadwallader.

"There are plenty of unique gifts available, places to eat out, and chill out. It's the perfect time of year to soak up everything this stunning village has to offer."

In 2023 Council will focus on upgrading surrounding areas of Byron Street. This will include:

  • Road paving will be upgraded where Byron Street and Park Lane intersect with Ballina Street
  • Complete paving around IGA complex
  • Upgrade of Lennox Park – including footpaths, shelters, landscaping
  • Road reconstruction and footpath upgrades to Byron Street, including paving
  • Enhancing green spaces for better shade and recreation
