Let good times roll as Roller-Palooza returns to University of Adelaide

Pop-up roller-skating event Roller-Palooza promises a wheely good time for all when it returns to the University of Adelaide's North Terrace campus next week.

Organised by the Adelaide University Union (AUU), Roller-Palooza 2021 will feature live street performers, DJs, food trucks, and a roller-skating rink on campus over three massive days, starting from Wednesday 15 September.

Built around an outdoor, enclosed roller-skating rink, the event aims to deliver all the vibes and entertainment of a California beachside boardwalk right in the heart of the city.

AUU Head of Engagement Simone Bannister said the event intended to increase campus culture and foster a sense of connectedness between the campus and community.

"With so many events being cancelled or postponed this year, Roller-Palooza creates what many of us are needing at the moment – a fun, joyful and somewhat nostalgic experience," Ms Bannister said.

"Roller-Palooza welcomes participation from students, members of the University community and anyone with an interest in roller-skating - plus, who doesn't love food trucks, live performers, carnival games, and good times on eight wheels?"

Sessions are open to the general public and run daily from 12pm to 9pm. The midday session (12pm to 1pm) will feature different performers each day on the Maths Lawns (entry from Frome Rd) including:

  • Basketball Man
  • Brazil Nuts Orchestra
  • Stunt Man Jim
  • Jai Lee
  • Banana Man
  • Pipe Guy

A line up of local DJs will be providing music and entertainment each night from 5pm, while food trucks like Loco Chino have lunch or dinner sorted with their TikTok-famous Asian fusion birria tacos.

Or, if you've always wanted to learn how to skate, this is your chance. Skate Society staff will be on hand to show newbies the basics, plus some tips and tricks to improve anyone's existing skills. University of Adelaide students skate free, while tickets for the general public are only $10 per session.

Roller-Palooza will be held from 12pm to 9pm daily on the Maths Lawns at North Terrace Campus (enter from Frome Rd), from Wednesday 15 September to Friday 17 September.
