Levee Barrier Training Begins as Stage 1 Wraps Up

As Stage 1 of the Northern Numurkah Levee Project moves closer to practical completion, Numurkah residents will see Moira Shire Council staff undertake training on the levee's flood barriers.

The training forms an important part of emergency preparedness and will help ensure Council staff are ready to rapidly deploy the barrier system during a flood event.

By testing procedures, equipment and response times, the exercises will support the effective operation of the levee and strengthen the community's preparedness for future flood risks.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the upcoming training exercises mark an important milestone for the project.

"Training will ensure Council staff are prepared to operate the flood barriers effectively when needed and help protect our community during future flood events," Dr Emonson said.

"We thank the Numurkah residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction of the levee and look forward to seeing the completed project."

The Northern levee is the first stage of a broader initiative designed to improve flood resilience in Numurkah and extends 3.12 Kilometers from the Goulburn Valley Highway to Kinnairds Road.

The project has included significant earthworks, infrastructure upgrades and the construction of flood protection assets across several locations throughout the town.
