Library Launches Read-Cycle: Books Get Second Life

Georges River Council

Georges River Council is bringing back the Read-Cycle Program for its second year!

Community organisations are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for this innovative sustainability program run by Georges River Libraries. The initiative gives pre-loved library materials a second life by sharing them with groups that support the local community.

The program gives a new home to library resources, including:

  • children's books
  • young adult and adult fiction
  • non-fiction
  • Large Print
  • DVDs
  • collections in Chinese and Greek

All materials are in good condition and ready to be reused. By sharing with other community organisations, our libraries can free up space for new resources. This also helps others make use of what we already offer.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "Programs like Read-Cycle help us make better use of our resources while supporting local organisations that do important work every day."

"I encourage eligible organisations to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to access free resources that can benefit the people they support."

Applicants need to be a not-for-profit, government, or community service organisation. They must operate in a non-commercial role for the Georges River community. Applications will be evaluated based on community needs, the intended use of resources, and available stock. Local organisations will be given priority.

EOI submissions close on 31 July 2026
