On alternating Wednesdays, the Echuca and Kyabram libraries will transform into youth hangout spaces for teens.

The youth take overs, funded by the Victorian Government will provide a safe space for youth in the region and encourage connection and relationship building amongst young people.

Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Rob Amos said it's a great initiative that will provide more for youth to do in the region.

"This program is about bringing young people together to hang out with one another and do their own thing in a safe space.

"The Wednesday night dedicated youth spaces will be held in the Kyabram and Echuca libraries on alternating weeks. The take overs will provide a range of activities, including creative arts, digital entertainment, a place to relax with friends, complimentary refreshments and a safe space for youth to be themselves.

"It's a great alternative to sport or other extracurricular activities for youth and gives them the opportunity to spend some time together. The program is designed for secondary school aged young people and will provide a space for those kids that are looking for a change to their usual hangout spots," Cr Amos added.

The sessions will be supervised and vapes, smoking, alcohol and drugs will not be tolerated.
