Lights shine brightly in Norlane

The future looks bright at Corio Bay Sports Club with the installation of lighting at the Cobras' home base Evans Reserve set to drive participation in soccer across Norlane.

Evans Reserve was one of seven sporting venues across the City of Greater Geelong to receive new lighting thanks to a $2.5 million injection from the Victorian Government's Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

In addition, the City committed to funding 10 per cent of the successful projects from within its 2020-2021 Budget.

Along with Evans Reserve, the following venues received support for the development of new lighting:

  • St Albans Recreation Reserve in Thomson,
  • Osborne Park in North Geelong,
  • St Leonards Lake Reserve in St Leonards,
  • Grinter Reserve in Newcomb,
  • Winter Reserve in Belmont, and
  • Burdoo Reserve in Grovedale.

Greater Geelong Mayor Peter Murrihy;

This announcement is welcome news for Corio Bay Sports Club as the addition of high-quality lighting will facilitate training at night in a safe environment.

The provision of improved facilities will also create an incentive for players to return to sport after the interruptions of the past few seasons due to Covid.

It's great news and we're appreciative to the Victorian Government for the funding.

Cr Kylie Grzybek, Windermere Ward;

The new floodlighting would allow Corio Bay Sports Club to extend its playing and training times, giving it the capacity to build higher levels of participation.

The lighting will cater for the dramatic rise in female participation in the sport, while also assist the club in building its depth throughout the men's teams.

The installation of new lighting at Evans Reserve is in line with Football Victoria's Effective Lighting Guidelines and supports the ability to maximise the use of the facility.

Member for Lara John Eren;

The Victorian Government's Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program is providing clubs a great opportunity to fast-track shovel-ready community sports infrastructure projects across Victoria while also supporting the economy.

In all, 42 projects across the state are benefiting from this program, which is expected to create 600 local jobs.

I'm so proud that our community is benefitting from this funding, and in particular that Corio Bay Sports Club will have lights that give them the opportunity to build participation and cater for more female participation.
