Little Malop Central

The following comments are to be attributed to City of Greater Geelong Director Economy, Investment and Attraction Brett Luxford:

Everyone has the right to feel safe and comfortable in Lt Malop Central.

Together with Victoria Police and other agencies, we are working to address anti-social behaviours in Lt Malop Central and create positive perceptions of the space.

To ensure the space is active and vibrant, every year we host more than 500 on-street performances and community activities in Lt Malop Central. This includes including Food Truck Friday; school holiday activities; musical performances; giant games and workshops.

To deal with some of the safety concerns CCTV is funded by the City with a direct feed to the Victoria Police at the Geelong Police Station. The City also conducts daily cleaning and maintenance services in Lt Malop Central.

Despite these efforts, Lt Malop Central precinct is not perceived by some as a safe or inclusive space.

Council has allocated $250,000 in the 2019/20 budget for a comprehensive master plan for the Lt Malop Central precinct.

Community feedback, including traders in the space, will be fundamental in our development of this master plan.
