From the academic year that begins in Aug 2026, third and fourth-year medical students at NTU will have to go through cadaveric dissection, as part of the enhanced curriculum offered by the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine).
Ahead of clinical rotations in specific specialties - such as obstetrics and gynaecology - students will now perform targeted surgical anatomy dissections relevant to the body region they will encounter to better connect what they have learned to real-life clinical scenarios.
The introduction of cadaveric dissection builds on LKCMedicine's tech-enhanced anatomy curriculum in the pre-clinical years (Years 1 and 2), which integrates plastinated human specimens (derived from human donors), 3D virtual dissections, VR tools, and medical imaging to deliver a multi-modal learning experience.
