Loaded firearm, drugs seized after vehicle stop in Edgecliff

Two men have been charged, after one was found with a loaded gun in his underwear, and the other was found to be in possession of over 2000 prescription tablets, in Sydney’s east. , NSW Police say>

About 2.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 22 August 2018), detectives attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command observed a Chrysler Sedan travel through a red light at the intersection of Ocean Street and New South Head Road, Edgecliff.

Police stopped the car on Glenmore Road. They spoke to the two male occupants, and developed reasonable suspicion to search them and the vehicle.

While police searched the 28-year-old male passenger, he became aggressive and resisted officers. Police subdued him and during the search they allegedly located a loaded firearm in his underwear.

During a search of the car, police located 2,200 Alprazolam tablets. The 28-year-old male driver allegedly admitted possession of these tablets.

Both the driver and passenger was taken to Waverley Police Station.

The passenger was charged with possess loaded firearm in public place, possess unregistered firearm – pistol, and possess prohibited drug.

The driver was charged with supply prohibited drug between indictable and commercial quantity, and possess prohibited drug.

They were both refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today (Thursday 23 August 2018).
