  • Families and stakeholders are invited to share their views about secondary schooling in the area as part of a community consultation process
  • Public secondary schools in the area are Yule Brook College, Sevenoaks Senior College, Cannington Community College and Cannington Community Education Support Centre
  • Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has today announced a consultation process to gauge opinions in the community about secondary schooling for families living in the Cannington area and broader south-east metropolitan region.

As part of the consultation process, the State Government will put options to the community for a more seamless education in the area.

Currently, Cannington Community College enrols students from kindergarten to Year 10. Yule Brook College, located in Maddington, caters for Years 7 to 10 and Sevenoaks Senior College in Cannington caters for Years 11 and 12. In addition, Cannington Community Education Support Centre operates as a Year 7 to 12 school across two campuses - Cannington Community College and Sevenoaks Senior College.

The eight-week consultation will involve school communities including parents, prospective parents, school boards and councils and parents and citizens' associations, from primary and secondary schools in the broader south-east region. Staff and other community members will also be invited to provide their opinions at community forums and in an online survey.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"We want to make sure that local families receive the best possible education in their local areas.

"We look forward to hearing from the community, and taking on board their opinions to continue to provide students with a range of high-quality learning opportunities close to home.

"I'm pleased to give families and stakeholders the chance to have their views heard about public secondary schooling."

As stated by Cannington MLA Bill Johnston:

"It is important that the local community get a say on what the future of education looks like in the area.

"I'm committed to working for our community, and getting the schools right for our community is part of that work."

As stated by Thornlie MLA Chris Tallentire:

"Maddington, which is home to Yule Brook College, is a growing and diverse area and it is critical we have an education system that suits the needs of the area.

"I encourage the community to engage in this process so we get the best possible outcome for current and future students."
