Over the past year, more 1,100 school students and preschoolers across the Macleay have taken part in a series of fun and interactive waste education workshops.
From puppet shows and worm farms to sorting waste and exploring the challenges of landfill, children discovered how everyday actions can help protect the planet.
Led by Grow Sustainability-trained educators, the workshops covered everything from recycling and litter reduction to avoiding plastic and conserving natural resources. Students didn't just learn what goes in the yellow bin, they explored what happens next and why it matters.
Preschoolers sorted waste, acted out stories and learned how food scraps can nourish worm farms and gardens. Through playful activities, they began to understand the importance of caring for their environment.
Primary students took a deeper dive into the world of waste, investigating where it goes and how our choices shape the future. They were encouraged to think critically about their habits, like choosing reusable items or packing waste-free lunches and how small changes can make a big difference.
Council thanks local schools, educators and families for embracing the program and hopes the lessons learned continue to inspire everyday action and awareness.
