Local Team To Deliver New Geelong City Market

Local celebrity chef Simon Toohey and events specialist Kieran Blood will bring Market Square Mall to life as the operators of the new Geelong City Market.

The City of Greater Geelong is pleased to announce Barwon Events Pty Ltd – a partnership between the dynamic duo – as the operator of the new market on Little Malop Street, set to launch in October 2025.

The pair brings extensive experience and a clear vision to the role: a bustling, inclusive marketplace that celebrates local produce, regional creativity and genuine connection.

The market will be held every Saturday, showcasing the best of Geelong and the Barwon region – from seasonal produce and artisan goods to street food, local makers, live entertainment and cultural experiences.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM:

The new market will build on Geelong's reputation as a vibrant and welcoming destination.

We're thrilled to see the Geelong City Market moving ahead.

This initiative will breathe new life into Market Square Mall and provide a space where locals and visitors can come together, support local traders and celebrate what makes our region unique.

Chef Simon Toohey:

The Geelong City Market will shine a light on the extraordinary growers, producers, artisans, retailers and hospitality businesses who make our city hum.

At a time when costs are rising and the world feels a little heavier, places like this become havens – where you can discover food and creations that are affordable, different, and brimming with excitement.

It's more than just a market. It's about giving our makers, bakers, growers and creators a voice – a platform to say to Geelong, the Bellarine and beyond: we're here, we're proud, and we can't wait to share what we do!

Event specialist Kieran Blood:

The market as a celebration of local talent and community.
It's a safe space, an inclusive space, and above all, an extension of what we love about the region – from us, from every stallholder, and from the community we're building together.

We can't wait to welcome you, to feed you, to surprise you, and to remind you just how special Geelong truly is.
