The Lott by NSW Lotteries is proud to renew its historic partnership with the Sydney Opera House for a fourth year, continuing a remarkable connection that helped bring one of Australia's most loved cultural icons to life.
Long before the Sydney Opera House became a symbol of Australia on the world stage, the idea was supported by everyday Australians who bought tickets in the Opera House Lottery. Between 1957 and 1986, 496 lottery draws sold more than 86 million tickets and raised $102 million, helping fund the majority of the Opera House's construction.
For more than a century, Australians have played the nation's official lotteries knowing that every ticket has the potential to change a life.
But beyond the dream of winning, lottery players have also helped deliver lasting benefits for communities, from hospitals and world-leading research to support when natural disasters strike. The Opera House stands as one of the most powerful examples of that shared contribution.
Today, the Opera House is more than an architectural masterpiece. It is a place where people gather, learn, perform, celebrate and connect. It is Australia's House, a globally celebrated landmark built for everyone.
By renewing this partnership for a fourth year, The Lott by NSW Lotteries is proud to honour that legacy while helping ensure future generations can experience the wonder, creativity and inspiration of the Opera House.
Liz McPherson, Partnerships Manager at The Lott by NSW Lotteries, said the partnership was a meaningful reminder of what can be achieved when Australians come together behind a bold idea.
"It's still incredible to think that when Australians bought tickets in the first Opera House Lottery in 1957, they were helping create a globally celebrated masterpiece and a cultural icon that continues to inspire millions of people," she said.
"This partnership is about celebrating that history, but it is also about looking forward. The Opera House continues to bring people together through creativity, storytelling and shared experiences, and we are proud to continue supporting a place that means so much to Australia."
Chloe Sawyer, Head of Partnerships, Sydney Opera House, said: "It's a great pleasure to continue our partnership with The Lott for another year. Since joining our family of partners in 2023, we have celebrated a shared history that stretches back to 1957, when more than 86 million lottery tickets were sold to help fund the construction of what would become Australia's most globally recognised and beloved buildings. As we mark another year together, we look forward to creating more ways for this much-loved building to reach more people within the community it was built to serve."
