Wyndham City is turning nine parks across the municipality into a virtual fantasy wonderland.
Magical Park is a mobile app designed for children aged 6-11. Children and families can interact with augmented kittens, dinosaurs, robots and fairies at local parks across Wyndham from 10 December until 31 January.
The Magical Parks game uses Augmented Reality which is an innovative new concept that combines the great outdoors with mobile gaming.
The app displays architectural wonders, enables play with captivating motion games and allows for travel through the solar system and beyond - all from your local park.
Wyndham City Mayor and Active City portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said: "Magical Parks will be the perfect pairing for such a magical season and will be a great excuse to get out of the house and into our parks."
"The application will run throughout the summer school holidays which can be a very challenging time for parents and guardians. With so many expensive activities on hand, it is great to be adding a competitive alternative to the cache of free activities here in Wyndham."
The app is free of charge for residents to download and play and is both fun and educational for users.
Research has shown that on average, children move between 500 metres to two kilometres while playing one of the Magical Park games. Within the app, there are eight different games to choose from that also teach children about recycling and litter in our oceans.
To help celebrate the festive season, there is also a Christmas themed game within the application.
"For residents of all ages, this is a great opportunity to discover a new park that you may not have discovered before. Many of the parks that have been chosen have recently undergone an upgrade, so this is a great excuse to check it out," Cr Maynard said.
