Making mental health priority

October is National Mental Health Month and Council is inviting people to free events to continue raising awareness and promote better mental health and wellbeing.

The theme of World Mental Health Day on Monday 10 October is 'Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority'.

All eastern councils, including Knox, are presenting a webinar about gambling harm and young people. This online webinar will be held on Thursday 20 October from 7.30pm-8.30pm. Speakers include a leading researcher, a counsellor and a person with lived experience of recovering from gambling addiction.

Council is also offering free mental health and wellbeing sessions to support community groups on Wednesday 26 October from 10am-11.30am at the Knox Civic Centre. Participants will learn how to identify the signs that someone needs help and when to get help for yourself and others in your community group or sports team.

Helping young people find a healthy relationship with food will be the subject of a webinar on Tuesday 25 October from 7.30pm-8.30pm. It will be presented by Sophie Rindfleish, an accredited practicing dietitian.

A webinar titled Asian-Australian Mental Health in Action will be held on Thursday 27 October from 7pm-8.30pm. Shapes and Sounds, the leading voice for Asian Australian mental health and wellbeing, will provide information and advice for Asian Australians seeking to improve their mental health, including opportunities to ask questions of the expert panellists.

Free group fitness training sessions are available at Knox Leisureworks this month, too.
