Man charged after domestic stabbings in Tamworth

A man will appear in court today after being charged with stabbing three people during a domestic dispute at a home in Tamworth overnight.

About 10.25pm (Saturday 19 January 2019), a 21-year-old man was in the front yard of a home in Coorong Street when an argument commenced with his 21-year-old girlfriend.

The man's 40-year-old mother intervened and as the younger woman walked towards the house she was stabbed in the abdomen.

The older woman tried to stop the incident and she received serious lacerations to a forearm.

A 34-year-old man also tried to assist but was stabbed several times in the torso.

Emergency services were contacted and police from Oxley Police District established a crime scene and commenced a search for the 21-year-old man.

The three injured people were conveyed to Tamworth Base Hospital.

It is anticipated that the 40-year-old woman will be flown to John Hunter Hospital while the 34-year-old man will be airlifted to the Royal North Shore Hospital.

Acting on information received from the community, the man was located and arrested with the assistance of a police dog, about 12.20am today (Sunday 20 January 2019).

The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was later charged with wound with intent to murder (x 2), wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and resist arrest.

The man was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Bail Court today (Sunday 20 January 2019).
