Man Charged for Distributing Child Exploitation Material

Detectives from the Child Exploitation Operations Squad (CEO) have charged a 62-year-old man as a result of their investigation into child exploitation material (CEM) offences.

The investigation commenced from information received via Crime Stoppers. On Thursday 25 May 2023, CEO detectives executed a search warrant at the man's Como home where they seized a large quantity of digital devices including desktop computers, laptops, storage devices, mobile phones and electronic devices allegedly belonging to the man.

It will be alleged a forensic triage of some of the devices seized identified the man had been communicating with numerous children over internet-based chat applications and during these conversations he had been exposing them to indecent material and procuring then to create explicit videos (CEM).

CEO detectives have identified three children who are believed to reside in the United Kingdom, United States of America and Australia who have been offended against. CEO's Victim Identification Specialist will review the seized devices and liaise with national and international law enforcement partners to identify and rescue any further child victims, no matter where in the world they live.

The 62-year-old man from Como has been charged with:-

• Eight counts of Possess Child Exploitation Material;

• Three counts of Distribute Child Exploitation Material; and

• One count of Using Electronic Communications to Expose a Child Believed to be under 16 years to Indecent Matter.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, Friday 26 May 2023.
