Man Charged in Homemade Firearms Probe

Drug & Firearms Squad detectives have charged a man following an investigation into privately manufactured firearms under Strike Force Temarang.

Strike Force Temarang was established by State Crime Command's Drug & Firearms Squad into the importation and manufacture of 3D printed firearms and firearm parts, 3D computer aided designed software, and other privately manufactured firearms.

It is a collaborative effort involving commonwealth partners including the Australian Border Force, Firearms Intelligence and Targeting Team (FITT), Australian Federal Police Forensic Intelligence (FORINT) and the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC).

About 6am today (Thursday 9 April 2026) strike force detectives – with assistance of Public Order and Riot Squad – executed a search warrant in Appin.

During the search, detectives allegedly seized two 3D printed push daggers, digital blueprints for firearms as well as electronic devices.

A 40-year-old man was arrested and taken to Campbeltown Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order, two counts of manufacture prohibited weapon without a permit, two counts of possess digital blueprint for making prohibited weapons and two counts of possess firearms material obtained using carriage service.

He was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Thursday 9 April 2026).

Inquiries under Strike Force Temarang are ongoing.
