Man Charged Over Attempted Kidnapping in Footscray: Police

Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after an alleged attempted kidnapping in Footscray on 25 March.

It is alleged two boys, aged 5 and 14-years-of age, were walking on Eldridge Street when a man approached and attempted to pick up the 5-year-old about 3.50pm.

It is believed the teenage boy tried to intervene however was allegedly assaulted.

Investigators arrested a 32-year-old man at a Footscray address this morning.

He has been charged with common law assault, attempted child stealing and recklessly cause injury.

He has been bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 21 June.
