Man dies after drowning - Boat harbour

A man has died following a drowning at a beach in Hunter region.

Just after 12.40pm today (Saturday 21 October 2023), emergency services were called to Boat Harbour, near Nelson Bay, following concerns for a man's welfare.

Police were told that a man had been swept into the water off the point of Boat Harbour at the time of incident.

Surf Life Saving NSW retrieved the man from the water; however, the 71-year-old man died at the scene.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstance surrounding this incident has commenced.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
