A man has died in hospital following an assault in Narre Warren South last week.
Emergency services were called to reports of a man being assaulted at Strathaird Reserve about 3.15pm on Friday, 12 June.
A 63-year-old Clyde North man was transported to hospital with critical injuries, where he died this morning (Thursday, 18 June).
Two men, a 21-year-old man of no fixed place of address and a 22-year-old Narre Warren South man were charged on 13 June with recklessly cause serious injury.
Both men remain in custody.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad will assume primacy of the investigation and will consider alternate charges following the results of a postmortem.
Police believe the parties involved were known to each other.
The investigation remains ongoing.
