Man dies in heavy-vehicle crash at Tarcutta

A man has died following a single-vehicle crash in the state's Riverina region yesterday.

About 2.30pm (Friday 29 January 2021), emergency services were called to the Hume Highway, south of Tarcutta, after reports a B-double truck carrying chemicals had veered off the road and crashed.

Police have been told the truck was travelling north on the Hume Highway near the Keajura Creek Bridge when it left the roadway and hit a tree, coming to a stop in the Keajura Creek.

The driver, a man believed to be aged in his 40s, was treated at the scene by passers-by and first responders but died soon after. He is yet to be formally identified.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District established a crime scene and the circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated.

There were traffic disruptions in both directions while emergency services and NSW Fire and Rescue's HAZMAT team conducted inquiries.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
