Man extradited for child sex offences

Northern Territory Police are extraditing a 65-year-old man to Darwin from Queensland for historical child sex offences.

The man was bailed to appear before court to face the charges in 1997 however Police allege the man breached his bail and left the Northern Territory. Renewed investigations through Operation Verto located the man in Queensland last month. Operation Verto was implemented by Police to re-visit historical sexual assault court cases, where arrest warrants had been issued for the nominated offender.

The man will arrive in Darwin today and he is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on Monday 17 June 2019.

He is facing charges of:

  • Attempt Sexual Intercourse without Consent – person under 16
  • 2 x Indecently Deal with Child Under 16
  • 3 x Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a child under 16
