It will be alleged about 11:50pm on Monday 5 September 2016, the accused - armed with a large meat cleaver - entered a fast-food outlet located on Walter Road East in Morley.
It will be further alleged, he threatened the two staff members with the meat cleaver, demanding money. After allegedly being given a sum of cash, the accused fled the area in a Honda CRV station wagon.
During the armed robbery, the staff received lacerations allegedly from the meat cleaver, which required medical treatment.
In 2016, detectives from then Regional Investigations Unit spoke to the then 18-year-old man, and a day later he boarded a flight to Auckland, New Zealand. He allegedly continued to taunt investigating detectives, phoning them from New Zealand, saying, "catch me if you can."
The 26-year-old man has been charged with 'Armed Robbery' in relation to the 2016 Morley incident, and he is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, Friday 30 May 2025.
The accused has an outstanding Return to Prison warrant for charges of 'Aggravated Armed Robbery', 'Armed Robbery', 'Attempted Aggravated Armed Robbery', and 'Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm' which relate to incidents that occurred in 2014 and 2015.
