Man in court over sexual abuse of young girl at Wollongong

A man will appear in court today charged over the alleged sexual abuse of a young girl in the Illawarra.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation at the weekend following reports a nine-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man who was known to her.

Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested a 42-year-old man at a home in Wollongong about 4.45pm yesterday (Sunday 3 November 2019).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with two counts of sexual intercourse with child under age of 10 and intentionally sexually touch child under 10 years (DV).

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted the girl on two occasions at homes in Wollongong and Camden.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 4 November 2019).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
