Axedale Fire Brigade Welcome Light Tanker

Axedale Fire Brigade has officially welcomed a new light tanker into its fleet, strengthening the brigade's ability to respond to emergencies across the local community and surrounding areas.

Axedale Fire Brigade Captain, Benji Harrold, said the brigade was proud to receive the new tanker, which would enhance both firefighter safety and operational capability.

"This new tanker is a significant asset for our brigade and will help us better serve the Axedale community for many years to come," Benji said.

"Having a modern dual-cab tanker means our crews can travel together, communicate effectively and plan their response while on the way to an incident.

The new tanker will provide crews with greater flexibility and reliability when responding to incidents across the brigade's diverse operational area.

"The vehicle is ideally suited to the range of emergencies we attend, from grass and bushfires through to storm response and other incidents across our district," Benji said.

Built on the robust Isuzu NPS crew-cab chassis, the light tanker features a 2,000-litre water tank, including 200 litres reserved for crew protection, and seating for four firefighters.

The tanker is equipped with a 450-litre-per-minute main pump, providing crews with the flexibility to respond to a broad range of incidents.

Its low-profile design and 4x4 capability allow it to navigate both rural terrain and built-up areas with ease, while a range of advanced safety features support firefighter wellbeing on the fireground.

These features include:

  • Latching crew doors fitted with alarms

  • One-metre-high side shielding

  • Deck camera and intercom

  • In-cabin touchscreen controls

  • Customised cabin handles and crew steps
