A boost to critical health services in the State’s Far West is a step closer, with the master plan released for the upgrade of the Broken Hill Health Service Emergency Department (ED) and enhancement of the Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit.

The $10 million upgrade of the ED will better meet the critical health needs of the region and support the delivery of contemporary models of care.

The purpose-built Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit has been co-designed by staff, carers and members of the community with lived experience.

When complete, the project will include:

  • an upgraded and modernised ED.
  • improved public access and wayfinding to the ED.
  • an enhanced, purpose-built Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit.
