Medicare Bulk Billing to Cease Without Immediate Changes

DRS

"Medicare bulk billing could effectively end for most people without urgent changes in the next federal budget"said Dr Robert Marr OAM Vice President Australian Doctors Reform Society

'The Australian Doctors Reform Society calls on the Albanese federal government to add a Bulk Billing incentive of $10 to Medicare Rebates in the May budget to encourage GPs to maintain Bulk Billing rather than move to charging higher private fees"said Dr Marr

"In these times of inflation and budget deficits the extra bulk billing incentive would help keep medical bills from rising by stopping a move to higher private medical fees and could be paid for by delaying any general increase in medicare rebates"said Dr Marr

"The Australian Doctors Reform Society also supports the proposal from the former head of the health department Prof Stephen Duckett to trial changes to bulk billing services to encourage bulk billing" said Dr Marr
