Meet Your Federal Council - Dr Xavier Yu

Australian Medical Association

Meet your Federal Councillor Radiologists Speciality Group Representative Dr Xavier You

Xavier is a radiologist working in a broad range of public and private practice tertiary and community settings, as well as in teleradiology. He is enthusiastic about the role of general radiologists, especially for regional Australia and committed to the teaching and supervision of upcoming radiology trainees.

Xavier's tenure during his time on AMA Federal Council since August 2022 has been to continually engage with other non-radiologist Council members and doctors on a variety of federal AMA committees to raise and improve awareness of the role of medical imaging for patient care. Particular highlights have been his involvement in supporting the policy and advocacy work of the AMA relating to Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, and the recent revision of the AMA Position Statement on Diagnostic Imaging.

He is also a member of the AMA Ethics and Medico-Legal Committee (his favourite!), Council of Specialist Private Practice, Public Health Committee, Equity Inclusion and Diversity Committee and represents the AMA for the Commonwealth Government Diagnostic Imaging Stakeholder Committee.

Apart from his clinical radiology work and volunteer time on the various AMA Councils and Committees, Xavier somehow manages to find spare time to enjoy playing violin and is President of the Australian Doctors Orchestra (ADO). The ADO convenes musical medical colleagues 1‒2 times a year for a weekend of rehearsals, with concert proceeds going to a local charity. The next ADO concert will be held in Chatswood, Sydney on 12 October. Visit www.ado.net.au to learn more.
