Cricket Victoria is proud to recognise Wallington Cricket Club's Melanie Kelsall as October's Kookaburra Volunteer of the Month, celebrating her outstanding dedication to growing girls' cricket.
A passionate advocate for getting more girls involved in the game, Mel has been instrumental in establishing and expanding the club's girls' program. This season Wallington Cricket Club welcomed its first Under 15 girls' team, alongside an Under 12 girls' team returning for a second consecutive year.
From recruiting players and securing sponsors to coordinating training and supporting participants, Melanie has gone above and beyond to give more girls the opportunity to play.
As a coach and one of the club's two junior coordinators, Melanie combines her commitment to growing participation with a passion for helping young cricketers develop. Her nomination highlighted the improvement of the girls each week, recognising the care and encouragement she brings to her coaching.
The nomination also acknowledged that the program would not be where it is today without Melanie's dedication, spirit and enthusiasm. Her contribution extends across every aspect of the girls' program, helping build a strong foundation for its continued growth.
Mel's efforts demonstrate the difference a committed volunteer can make, creating opportunities for girls to discover cricket and continue developing within their local club.
Cricket Victoria congratulates Melanie on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her outstanding contribution to community cricket.
