- State Government funding to support agricultural town growth
The Great Southern town of Gnowangerup is set to expand with works commencing to deliver both residential and industrial land options.
Funded by a $1 million State Government Regional Development Assistance Program commitment and delivered through DevelopmentWA, six residential lots, including a large grouped-housing site, and six light industrial lots will be delivered.
Leeuwin Civil Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract for the works and is expected to complete civil works by August 2025, with land releases planned for September this year.
The single residential lots will range from 857sqm to 900sqm, while a 5,945sqm grouped housing site will deliver increased housing density and diversity for the town.
The light industrial lots will range from 3,796sqm to 9,898sqm and are designed to appeal to businesses servicing the surrounding agriculture industries including machinery maintenance, transport logistics, storage and other uses.
The Regional Development Assistance Program is designed to help overcome the prohibitive development costs in regional Western Australia, supporting economic revitalisation and the growth of regional towns.
Job opportunities, both during construction and through the establishment of new businesses in the industrial area, will strengthen the town's local economy.
Purchasers are encouraged to visit developmentwa.com.au/gnowangerup for more information and to register their interest in the future release.
As stated by Planning and Lands Minister John Carey:
"The Cook Government recognises the importance of Gnowangerup to the livestock and crop trade and has funded construction of residential and industrial land to ensure the town continues to support these integral industries.
"Increasing medium-density housing will provide Gnowangerup residents the opportunity to downsize or offer more affordable choices for those wishing to move to the area for work or lifestyle changes."
As stated by Great Southern Minister Reece Whitby:
"The Regional Development Assistance Program plays a vital role in supporting regional growth in Western Australia's Great Southern region.
"With over 1,200 existing residents in Gnowangerup, the release of new residential and light industrial land later this year will ensure this vibrant rural community continues to thrive and grow."
