Global Affairs Canada

Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King's Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy, and the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, met with industry leaders from Canada's oil and gas sector.

The discussion focused on the importance maintaining the highly integrated North American energy market that supports jobs, economic growth and energy security on both sides of the border.

Participants shared their views on priorities for the upcoming Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) joint review, including maintaining preferential access for Canadian energy products, modernizing rules and procedures to reduce administrative burden, improving border efficiency, and supporting regulatory certainty for Canadian businesses operating across North America.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between governments and industries ahead of the joint review.

Participants underscored the opportunity for Canada and the United States to build on their longstanding energy partnership and strengthen economic cooperation in ways that support competitiveness, growth and energy security across North America.
