Missing person located - Litchfield National Park

A 71-year-old woman reported missing in Litchfield National Park has been located safe and well this afternoon.

The woman from New South Wales is an experienced hiker had left Wangi Falls to walk to Tjaetaba Falls, a hike of about 10km.

Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said, "She became disoriented and was unable to find her way back.

"Luckily, she was well-provisioned with food and water and a silver blanket, she had also found enough fresh water to stay hydrated.

"She was resting in the shade this afternoon when she heard the helicopter and was able to walk to a point where she could be seen and was subsequently picked up by the helicopter."

The air and land search included NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services, NT Emergency Service volunteers and NT Parks and Wildlife personnel.

"We couldn't have hoped for a better outcome. I'd like to thank everyone involved in the lady's rescue."
