Mitchell Shire seeks input on roadmap to zero emissions future

Are you concerned about climate change?

Would you like to learn more about how Mitchell can reach a zero-emissions future?

Join us for the Zero Emissions Public Forum on Saturday 6 May from 10-30am to 12.30pm at the Broadford Shire Hall.

The forum will provide a feedback summary from the consultation we undertook on Council's Climate Emergency Action Plan as well as input from our Community Reference Group. We will explain how this feedback has been used to shape the development of the draft Mitchell Shire Climate Emergency Action Plan.

Council will also take this opportunity to discuss suggested targets for the Mitchell Shire community to reach a zero-emissions future.

In September 2021, Council acknowledged we are facing a Climate Emergency, and is committed to addressing the current and future impacts of climate change on the health and wellbeing of the people of Mitchell Shire, the economy, and the environment.

As part of this acknowledgement, Council recognised the need to develop a community-wide Climate Emergency Action Plan (CEAP) to assist both Council and community to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change and adapt to impacts that are already occurring.

We know our community is passionate about climate action, given it was identified as one of the six key themes of the 2050 Community Vision.
